Windows 10: automatically hide taskbar - how it works
In Windows 10, the taskbar with the start menu is back. As in previous versions, you can hide them automatically. We'll tell you exactly how this works in this article.
Windows 10: Automatically hide the taskbar
If you use Windows 10 on a small screen or if you are disturbed by the taskbar at work, you can hide it. The start menu and the symbols will only appear if you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen.
- To do this, right-click on an empty space on the taskbar.
- In the context menu, select the "Properties" option.
- Here, activate the checkbox next to "Automatically hide taskbar" and save the changes with "OK".
- The taskbar then disappears and only reappears when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen or press the Windows key.
Taskbar cannot be hidden - you can do that
Currently you can only hide the taskbar automatically using the described method. For some users, however, this does not work. When and if Microsoft will release an update that fixes this problem is unknown. Until then, you can still try to restart Windows Explorer:
- To do this, open the Task Manager with the key combination [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc].
- Then look for the "Windows Explorer" entry in the "Windows Processes" section.
- Then click on the "Restart" button at the bottom right. The problem has been solved for some users.
Tip: If you want more space in the taskbar, you can deactivate the search field.
