Windows 10: updates are not downloaded - what to do?
In this article, we will show you what you can do if updates are not downloaded on Windows 10. Microsoft's new update policy can often lead to errors. Fortunately, these are easy to fix.
Problem 1: Windows 10 does not find any updates
If Windows 10 does not find any updates on its own, you should proceed as follows:
- First, restart your computer and wait 15 minutes after restarting in Windows. You can then try again to check for updates.
- If that doesn't work, go to Control Panel and go to "System and Security".
- Then select "Detect and fix problems". In the following screen you should click on "Fix Windows Update problems" under "System and Security".
- After the program is finished, Windows will find the updates again without any problems.
Problem 2: Windows 10 does not download updates
In isolated cases it may also be that Windows finds the updates but does not download them. You can solve this problem with the following steps:
- Carry out points 1-4 from the paragraph above. If the problem is still not resolved, you can do the following:
- Open Windows Explorer. Now navigate to "C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution \ Download".
- Then delete everything in the folder. This will force Windows to re-register and download the updates.
- The updates should then be downloaded as usual.
Tip: Alternatively, you can download the Windows updates from our download area. Downloading and installing are usually faster than using the Windows system function.
