Install Windows 10 in VirtualBox - Here's how
You can also install Windows 10 in the Virtualbox and then run it in parallel with another operating system. In this practical tip, we explain exactly how this works.
Use Windows 10 in the VirtualBox emulator
You can find step-by-step instructions again in the picture gallery below.
- Download Windows 10.
- Install the "VirtualBox" program on your PC and then start it. We will show you how to set up Virtual Box in another practical tip.
- Click the "New" button.
- Enter the name for the virtual operating system.
- Under the "Type:" drop-down menu, select "Microsoft Windows".
- Set the version to "Windows 10".
- Next, specify the amount of memory that you want to deploy Windows 10. We recommend at least 2 GB.
- Now you have to create a hard drive for Windows 10. It is best to leave the default settings for a hard disk size of 25 GB and click on "Create".
- Select "VDI" as the file type of the hard disk and "dynamically allocated" as the type of storage.
- Your virtual environment is now created. Now you have to include the Windows 10 ISO file.
- To do this, click on "Change" and then on the right tab on "Mass Storage".
- Select the empty image under "Controller: IDE".
- Other attributes now appear on the right. Click the CD icon here to include the ISO file.
- As soon as you click the "Start" button, Windows 10 runs in the VirtualBox and the loading screen appears.
- The installation then takes place in the typical Windows installation routine.
