Windows 10: Start Windows Explorer as admin - so it'll work
By default, you cannot start Explorer on Windows 10 as an admin. With the right settings and a few small tricks, it still works. We'll show you exactly how to do this.
Start Windows Explorer under Windows 10 as admin
Windows Explorer cannot be run as an administrator via the start menu and the taskbar. Instead, you have to take a little detour.
- First open Explorer with the key combination [Windows] + [E].
- Then change to the path "C: / Windows".
- Right-click on the "Explorer.exe" file and select the "Run as administrator" entry.
- Finally, confirm the query with "Yes".

If you also want to start Windows Explorer as an admin via the start menu and taskbar, you have to make changes to the registry.
- Open the Run dialog with the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- Enter the "regedit" command here and confirm with "Ok".
- In the Windows registry, navigate to the path "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ AppID \ {CDCBCFCA-3CDC-436f-A4E2-0E02075250C2}" in the left column.
- Right click on the key on the left and select the "Delete" option.
- Then restart your computer. Then right-click on Windows Explorer in the Start menu and choose the option "Run as administrator".
