Windows 10 performance index: where did it go and how do i calculate it?
- The performance index has not been visible since Windows 8.1. However, it has not disappeared. The index rates the hardware with points from 1.0 to 9.9.
- With the free Win Experience Index software, you can get the performance index back. Install the program and click on the "Rate new" button at the bottom right.
- The current rating of your hardware will then be displayed as in the previous versions of Windows.

Since Windows has not forgotten the function, but only hid it, you can continue to calculate the performance index using on-board means. The display of the results is, however, somewhat more complex to obtain:
- Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "winsat formal" here and confirm with "OK". The performance index is then calculated. After a short time the window closes again.
- Now open the following path in Explorer: "C: \ Windows \ Performance \ WinSAT \ DataStore". There you will find a file with the ending "Formal.Assessment (Recent) .WinSAT.xml". At the beginning you will find the current date and time of the measurement.
- Right-click to open the file with your browser or drag the file into your browser with the mouse. From line 22 onwards you will find the ratings for the individual areas as well as a few additional sub-ratings, which are usually not shown.
