Windows 7: Disable automatic updates
If you have slow internet access or your Windows 7 computer has few resources, you can deactivate the automatic updates to get a little more out of your PC. In this practical tip we will show you how.
How to disable automatic updates
- Click on the "Start" button.
- Enter "Update" in the search bar. Select the search result "Windows Update".
- A new window opens in which you click on the "Change settings" option on the left.
- Under the "Important Updates" tab you will find a dropdown menu. Unfold it with a left click.
- Now you can choose different options to deactivate the updates. We recommend the entry "Check for updates, but set the time for downloading and installing manually".
- Finally, click OK". The settings are then applied.
If you want to clean up your hard drive and make room for something new, you can get a few GBytes out by deleting old updates.
