Windows 7: Turn off automatic shutdown
Windows 7 can shutdown automatically when the system is inactive. However, you can also turn off this function. We show you how to do this in this article.
This is how you can turn off the automatic shutdown in Windows 7
If your computer remains idle for a certain period of time, it can automatically go to sleep and save electricity. If you want to prevent this - for example because you want to access your hard drive remotely - you can switch off the power saving function with a few clicks in the power options:
- Open the Control Panel and select the "Power Options" item. If you use the category view, you must first go to the "System and Security" category.
- In the left bar, click on "Select time to switch off the screen".
- Click on the selection field to the right of "Energy saving mode after:" and select "Never". Complete the process with the "Save changes" button.
You can also put your PC to sleep using the power button. In another practical tip, we will show you how this works.
