Adjust Windows 7 user account control: how it works
Under Windows 7 you can customize the user account control. One of the consequences of this is that system changes such as a program installation must be confirmed.
How to change User Account Control on Windows 7
- Open the Control Panel with the Home button (formerly "Start").
- Select the "User Accounts".
- Here you will find the option "Change settings for user accounts".
- On the next page you can choose one of four different levels of security.
This is hidden behind the user account control
You can choose between four different levels - from "Always notify" to "Never notify".
- "Always notify" (safest): With every change for which administrator rights are required, there is a notification (eg when installing a program). This has to be confirmed.
- "Notify me only when changes are made to my computer by programs": Here you will only be notified of changes made by programs, but not changes made by Windows.
- "Notify me only when changes are made to my computer by programs (do not dim the desktop)": The difference to the previous option is that the desktop is grayed out. This means that no other program is temporarily executed.
- "Never notify": Here programs can make changes unnoticed. If you are not logged in as an administrator, all changes will be denied.
