Windows 7: Freeze desktop icons
With a tool you can fix your desktop icons under Windows 7. As a result, there is no chaos on your screen even after a changed resolution.
Fix the arrangement of the desktop symbols under Windows 7
- Download Desktop Restore and install the tool.
- Arrange your desktop icons the way you want them to be found in the future.
- Now right-click on an empty spot on your desktop. You will now find the three additional entries "Save Desktop ...", "Restore Desktop" and "Custome Save / Restore ..."
- Select the "Save Desktop ..." option. Confirm the selection with "OK".
- Drag some icons on your screen to test. Then right-click on your desktop again.
- This time select the entry "Restore Desktop". Your symbols will then be reset.
Create different desktop profiles
You can also set different profiles - for example "work", "play" or similar. This means you always adapt your desktop to the respective situation.
- Arrange your symbols for a situation, for example "work".
- Now right-click on an empty spot on your desktop. Select "Save Desktop ..." in the context menu. Then open the context menu again and select "Custom Save / Restore ...".
- A new window will appear. Click the "Save to File ..." button.
- Choose an appropriate name and location for the file.
- Repeat the steps as often as you like for each situation.
- If you would now like to switch from one profile to another, right-click on your desktop. Select "Custom Save / Restore ...". Then click on "Restore from File ..." and select the profile.
- After you click "Open", the symbols are reordered.
