Windows 7: An overview of the system requirements
In order for Windows 7 to run on your PC, the computer must meet certain system requirements. Microsoft has specified exactly what these are.

The values mentioned by Microsoft are the minimum requirements from which you can install and use Windows 7. However, for optimal work or other complex tasks, your PC should exceed these values as far as possible:
- A processor with 1 GHz clock and 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) architecture
- 1 GB of RAM if you want to use the 32-bit version and 2 GB for the 64-bit version
- 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) free hard disk space
- a graphics card that supports DirectX 9
Optional requirements
Your PC must meet additional requirements for additional functions. These include:
- a sound card or mainboard with audio chip and speakers if you want to play music and other sounds
- A TV card is required to receive TV channels in Windows Media Center
- an optical drive with write function must be available to burn CDs and DVDs
- You will also need an additional gigabyte of RAM and another 15 gigabytes of hard disk space if you want to use XP mode
