Windows 7 hangs up - it can be because of it
If Windows 7 keeps hanging up, there are various causes. In this practical tip, we show you what this can be and what you can do about it.
Windows 7 hangs: too many installed programs?
Too many installed programs may be causing your system to freeze.
- We therefore recommend that you uninstall all unused and no longer required programs.
- The freeware Revo Uninstaller is suitable for this, since it also removes the remaining files, folders and registry entries.
- The best way to remove other data garbage that is no longer needed is with the CCleaner.
- After using both tools, you should restart the system.
Option 2: Too many open processes and autostart programs
If there are too many programs in the autostart, Windows 7 can be slowed down permanently.
- Open the start menu and enter "msconfig" in the search field. Confirm with [Enter].
- In the tab "System start" you should remove all checkmarks from programs that should not necessarily be opened with the system start.
- Save the changes by clicking on "Apply". You have to restart the PC for these to take effect.
- Then open the Task Manager. To do this, right-click on the taskbar and select "Task Manager". Alternatively, you can also use the key combination [CTRL] + [ALT] + [DEL] to then select "Start Task Manager".
- Open the "Processes" tab and look for unnecessary processes. You can end this by selecting the process and clicking on the "End Process" button below.
Option 3: Virus or unwanted software on Windows 7
You may also have caught a virus that is now responsible for causing Windows 7 to freeze.
- Therefore, check your PC thoroughly with your antivirus program. Since this process takes some time, we advise you not to use the PC in time.
- In addition, you should carry out a check with the AdwCleaner in order to be able to detect and remove possible adware.
Option 4: The hard drive under Windows 7 is too full
If the hard disk is too full, the system can no longer work reliably and freezes.
- Therefore, move files to another hard drive or partition to make room.
- Uninstalling programs also creates free space.
- If you don't have another partition at hand, we recommend that you buy a new hard drive with more storage space.
