Windows 7: change MAC address - does it work?
If you want to change your Mac address under Windows 7, we will show you exactly how and where the restrictions are.
Change MAC address - is that actually possible?
- In Windows, you can only change the MAC address for your computer's LAN adapter. However, the MAC address of WLAN adapters cannot be manipulated.
- A change in the MAC address is therefore only useful if you are connected to the Internet via LAN.
- Unfortunately there is no option with which you can change the MAC address easily. You would have to dig deeper into the system and make numerous settings. However, it is also much more convenient: in the next paragraph we will introduce you to a tool that does the work for you.
Windows 7: Change MAC address
The "ChangeMAC-2013" does the tedious work for you and does not require any installation. The Technitium MAC Address Changer is also recommended, but you have to install it.
- Download the ChangeMac-2013 tool from the manufacturer's website.
- Right-click on the EXE file and select "Run as administrator".
- Then click on your network adapter for the LAN connection. You can look up the correct entry in the Device Manager under the category "Network adapter".
- Now enter any number combination as a new Mac address and click on the "Apply" button.
- You can start the program again at any time and use the "Restore" button to undo the settings.
