Shut down Windows 7 without update - does it work?
If Windows 7 has downloaded new updates again, you can shutdown the PC without installing it. We'll show you how it's done.
Shut down Windows 7 without installing updates
If the updates have already been downloaded and Windows wants to install them at shutdown, you can prevent this by doing the following:
- Close all programs so that you are on the desktop.
- Press the "Alt" + "F4" keys at the same time so that a small window opens.
- Select the "Shutdown" option and confirm your selection by clicking "OK" or using the "Enter" key.
Windows 7: Disable automatic updates
If you want to completely deactivate the automatic installation of updates, you will no longer be faced with the aforementioned problem in the future.
- Click the Windows button at the bottom right so that the Start menu opens.
- Enter "Update" in the search bar below and select "Windows Update".
- A new window opens in which you click on "Change settings" on the left.
- Instead of "Install updates automatically" at the top, select "Check for updates, but manually choose when to download and install."
- Finally, if you click the "OK" button, you will always be notified when updates are available so that you can determine the time of installation yourself.
