Windows 7: Pin folder to taskbar
Windows 7 does not let you attach folders to the taskbar. With a little trick it works anyway. We show you step by step how to do it.
Step 1: create shortcut for the folder
First, create a shortcut to the desired folder on the desktop. This works in three different ways:
- Right-click on the folder and select "Desktop (create shortcut)" under "Send to".
- Drag the folder to the desktop with the right mouse button pressed and select "Create shortcut here" when you release it.
- Right click on the folder and click "Copy". Then right-click on the desktop and select "Insert shortcut" from the context menu.
Step 2: Change shortcut and pin the folder to the taskbar
Next, make a shortcut to a program from the folder shortcut. This can then be attached to the taskbar:
- Right-click on the shortcut and open the "Settings".
- In the "Target" field, insert "% windir% \ explorer.exe" (without quotation marks) before the path. Make sure that the insert and the path are separated by a space.
- Optionally, you can give the link another symbol. A list of the available symbols can be found here.
- Click "OK" and right-click the shortcut again. Now the folder can be attached to the taskbar.
