By default, Windows 7 cannot add folders to the Start menu. But with a little trick it works. We show you exactly how to proceed.
Windows 7: Pin the folder to the start menu
For files and shortcuts under Windows 7 you will find the entry "Pin to start menu" in the context menu. However, this option is missing for folders. You can retrofit them via the Windows registry.
- To do this, open the Run dialog with the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- Enter the command "regedit" without quotes and confirm with [Enter]. A possible warning message from the user account control is confirmed by clicking "Yes".
- In the Windows registry, navigate to the path "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ Folder \ ShellEx" on the left.
- Right-click on the "ContextMenuHandlers" entry and select the "Key" option under "New".
- Use the designation "{a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}" as the key name without quotation marks and confirm with [Enter].
- Finally, restart your computer. Now you can also right-click on folders and add them to the start menu using the entry "Attach to start menu".
