Windows 7: Check registry for errors
You can check the Windows 7 registry for errors with a simple tool. You can find out how to do this here.
CCleaner: Intelligent tool checks Windows registry for errors
With the free program "CCleaner" you can easily check your registry for errors:
- Download the free tool and install it on your computer. Alternatively, you can also find a portable version for download.
- Then start the tool and click on the "Registry" tab on the left. To ensure that all files are also searched, activate all points here.
- Start the scan with the button "Search for errors". After a few seconds, the errors found appear in the program window.
- To fix this, click on the "Fix error" button and confirm the query with "Yes". The CCleaner then corrects all errors in the registry.
Windows 7: Checking the registry with on-board tools
Windows 7 also comes with a tool that you can use to check the registry. This will fix incorrect files and entries. So it is best to carry out the steps in addition to the CCleaner:
- Click "Start" and type "cmd" in the search field.
- Right-click on the "cmd.exe" found and select the "Run as administrator" option in the context menu. You may have to confirm this process.
- Then enter the command "sfc / SCANNOW" in the black console window and press the [Enter] key.
- The system is now checked for errors. Wait for the process so that broken or damaged registry files can be automatically repaired or restored.
- At the end a result appears. You can now close the command prompt.
