Windows 7: Deactivate shortcuts - how it works
In this practical tip, we explain how you can deactivate shortcuts under Windows 7.
Disable shortcuts in Windows 7
With shortcuts you can quickly open frequently used functions and quickly call up special settings. Despite their practicality, there is sometimes a desire to turn off the keyboard shortcuts. In this guide, we show you how to deactivate the keyboard shortcuts in Windows 7:
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys to open the registry editor.
- Navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER]> [Software]> [Microsoft]> [Windows]. You have to open the [Explorer] key in the [CurrentVersion] and [Policies] folders so that you can switch off the key combinations under Windows 7.
- Right-click in the white field on the right and under "New" go to "DWORD value (32 bit)".
- Give this key a unique name so that you can identify it again later.
- Right-click on your new key and set the value "1" under "Change ...". Confirm your entry with "OK" (see screenshot).
- Restart your computer so that your settings are saved and the shortcuts are permanently deactivated in Windows 7. If you want to reactivate the key sequences, you only have to change the value back to "0" as described in point 5 and restart your PC.
If your system no longer functions correctly after you have deactivated the shortcuts, the registry editor could contain an error. We show you how to check the registry here.
