Windows 7: Create shutdown shortcut
With a shutdown link, you can shutdown Windows 7 with a double click. We show you how to create such a link.
Create shutdown shortcut on Windows 7
To create a shutdown link, you first need a normal text file.
- Minimize all programs and go back to your computer desktop.
- Right-click on "New"> "Text Document" to create an empty document.
- Change the name of the document to "Shutdown.bat". The file extension is important in this step. To be able to edit them, you have to activate the display of file extensions in Windows.
- Open the file and enter the following characters "shutdown / s / t 000". Then save the file.
- Next you have to create a link to the Shutdown.bat file. To do this, right-click on the file to open the context menu and select "Create shortcut".
- For the link to work, it must be started automatically with administrator rights. To do this, right-click on the new link and select "Properties". Under "Advanced" check "Run as administrator" and confirm twice with "OK".
- Double-click the shortcut to shutdown your computer now.
Modify shutdown link
By changing the parameters in the file, you can also influence the command:
- An "r" instead of the "s" restarts the computer instead of shutting it down.
- Instead of entering "000", you can also specify a time in seconds that expires before the command is executed.
