Windows 7: Change startup partition
In this guide, we explain how to change the start partition in Windows 7.
Change boot partition in Windows 7
- If you have a PC with several bootable partitions on different data carriers, call the BIOS when your PC starts up. You can find instructions on how to do this in this practical tip.
- In the boot options, set the desired partition or hard disk as the primary data carrier for the boot process. In order for this to work smoothly, the selected data carrier must be a bootable system.
- If there are several start partitions on a single data carrier, it is best to use the free tool EasyBCD.
- The program acts as a boot manager and provides numerous functions to adapt and select the boot partition.
Startup partition: make manual changes
Alternatively, you can make changes manually to select a different boot partition:
- To do this, click on "System and Security" in the Control Panel and then select "System".
- Under "Advanced system settings"> "Start and restore"> "Advanced" you will find the "Settings" button.
- Here you can set the standard operating system at "System start". Please note that you need administrator rights for this and this process should only be carried out by experienced users.
