Windows 7: Change start sound - how it works
Every time Windows 7 starts, it plays the familiar login melody. You can also change this start sound. In this article, we will tell you how to do this and what you need to consider.
Change startup sound in Windows 7
If you want to change the startup or logon sound of Windows 7, you do not need any special software. You can find all the settings in the Control Panel:
- Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left and select "Control Panel" from the Start menu.
- In the "Hardware and Sound" category, click on the "Change system sound" option in the "Sound" section.
- A list of all Windows sounds appears in the new window. Search for the entry "Windows registration" and select it.
- Under "Sounds" you can already choose from numerous pre-made Windows tones. If you want to add your own sound, click on "Browse" at the bottom right and select the desired file. This must be in the ".wav" format. We'll explain how to convert your music into this format in the next section.
- Finally, check "Play Windows start sound" and save the changes with "Ok".
- Restart your computer, your new start sound will sound after logging in.
Windows 7: Use music as the start sound
If you want to use your own music as Windows sound, you have to convert the audio files to WAV format.
- To do this, install the free program "Super 2015" on your PC.
- Start the tool and drag the desired audio files into the program window.
- Under "Select the Output Container" at the top left, select the option "WAV (Audio Only)".
- Finally click on "Encode" to start the conversion.
If you do not want to use the entire audio file as a starting sound, you can trim the music file.
