Windows 7: delete temporary files - how it works
Temporary files can consume a lot of space on your hard drive. Therefore, you should delete the data in Windows 7 regularly. You can either use a free tool or remove the files manually. In this article we explain both variants to you.
Windows 7: Manually delete temporary files
Although you can remove a large part of the temporary data using the disk cleanup in Windows 7, the tool does not catch all files. You should therefore delete the individual folders manually:
- To do this, you must first activate the display for hidden files in Windows Explorer. This is the only way to find the temporary data on your computer. You can find detailed instructions in the video:
- Then open the start menu and enter the command "% temp%" in the search. Windows Explorer opens.
- Delete all files and folders that you can find here.
- Repeat the step for the global Temp folder in Windows 7. You can access this with the command "C: \ Windows \ Temp".
Windows 7: Delete temporary files with CCleaner
Instead of removing the temporary files manually, you can use a free program like CCleaner:
- Start the tool and switch to the "Cleaner" tab.
- If you want to keep the temporary data of certain programs, remove the check mark in front of the corresponding entry.
- Then click "Analyze" and wait for the process to finish.
- Then delete the temporary files using "Run Cleaner" and "Ok".
If you also want to remove your temporary internet data, delete the corresponding browser folder.
