Windows 7: Find and install drivers automatically
With Windows 7, you can automatically search for the latest drivers and install them. We show you how to do this in this guide.
How to automatically search for current drivers with Windows 7
- Click the "Windows icon" in the lower left of the task bar and enter "Device Manager" in the search field. Confirm with [Enter].
- Now select the hardware component for which you want to search for current drivers. Then click on the "Update driver software" button at the top of the menu bar (see image).
- In the pop-up window click on "Automatically search for current driver software".
- Windows 7 now searches the Internet for suitable drivers. If a newer driver is available, it will be downloaded and installed automatically.
- After the installation you have to restart your PC.
Automatic driver search with Driver Booster Free
The free "Driver Booster Free" tool does the automatic driver search for you. As soon as a newer driver is found, you can install it directly with Driver Booster:
- Download the "Driver Booster Free" tool from the CHIP download portal and install it. Attention: During the installation the program "Advanced SystemCare" wants to install. If you do not want this, you have to remove the corresponding check mark during setup.
- After restarting your PC, open the "Driver Booster Free" program.
- After a test run, your currently installed drivers are displayed in an overview. Under "Obsolete" you will find all hardware components for which newer drivers are available for download.
- If you want to update a driver, click on the "Update" button to the right of the entry. The program now automatically downloads and installs the new driver.
- As soon as the driver has been installed, your PC restarts.
