Windows 7 and MacOS: Restart Apple Mobile Device service
We explain how to restart the "Apple Mobile Device" service on "Windows 7" and "Mac OS". This means that the connection between the computer and iDevice works properly again.
Windows 7: With just a few clicks to restart
First install the current "iTunes" version.
- Close "iTunes" and disconnect all iDevices from your PC.
- Go to "Control Panel" and switch to "Icon" in the top right corner. Now click on "Administration".
- Select "Services".
- In the list you will find the entry "Apple Mobile Device". Right click on it.
- Click on "Restart" in the context menu (see screenshot).
Mac OS: delete and reinstall
- Log in as administrator and disconnect all iDevices from your Mac.
- In the "Finder" go to the "Programs" folder, search for "iTunes" and put the program in the "Recycle Bin".
- Now open the folder "/ System / Library / Extensions".
- Here you search for "AppleMobileDevice.text" and also drag this file into the "Recycle Bin".
- Go to the "/ Library / Receipts /" folder.
- Look for the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg file.
- Also put this file in the "Recycle Bin". Depending on your MacOS version, the file may not exist - then you can simply continue with the next step.
- Empty the "waste paper basket" and restart the computer.
- Finally, download and install the latest version of "iTunes".
If you continue to experience errors with your "iDevice", call the "Apple Support Hotline".
