Windows 7: Fix USB problems after installing Service Pack 1
If you experience problems with the USB ports after installing Service Pack 1 for Windows 7, you can correct this yourself. We'll show you how it's done.
Windows 7 SP 1: Troubleshoot the USB connection
The error is noticeable in the fact that Windows issues warnings when connecting USB devices and the data transfer does not go smoothly. The reason is an incorrect installation of the USB driver when installing the service pack.
- To solve the problem, you need to download a patch from Microsoft that has been specially created for this problem.
- The patch is available for 32-bit systems and 64-bit systems.
- Click the "Next" button on the website and then click "Next" again. Now a small tool is downloaded which is used to check the authenticity of your system. Microsoft wants to prevent you from getting the update for an unregistered computer.
- When you open the tool, a code is displayed that you can copy (see picture).
- Then enter the code on the Microsoft website and click on the "Verify" button.
- Then click on the "Download" button to start the download. If you open the file, the patch will be installed.
After a restart, the USB connections should now function properly again.
