With a little trick, you can also start Explorer as Admin under Windows 7. In this practical tip, we will tell you exactly how to do this.
Step 1: Start Windows Explorer as a separate process
For security reasons, Windows 7 locks Explorer windows that you start as Admin. Therefore, you must first assign a separate process to each window.
- To do this, open Explorer with the key combination [Windows] + [E].
- Under "Organize" select the entry "Folder and search options".
- Then switch to the "View" tab in the new window.
- Activate the option "Start folder window in a separate process" and click on "Ok".
Step 2: Disable admin lock for Windows 7 Explorer
Now you can venture into the Windows 7 admin lock. This is hidden in the registry.
- First open the Run dialog with the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- Enter the "regedit" command here and confirm with "Ok".
- In the Windows registry, navigate to the left on the path "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ AppID \ {CDCBCFCA-3CDC-436f-A4E2-0E02075250C2}".
- Right-click on the key in the overview and select the "Delete" entry.
- Finally restart your computer. You can then start Windows Explorer as Admin from the Start menu. To do this, right-click on the relevant entry and select the "Run as administrator" option.
