Windows 7 too slow: you can do that
In this article, we'll show you what you can do if Windows 7 is too slow. If the popular but already old operating system has become too slow, you can help it again with the tips and tricks from our article.
Windows 7 too slow: use CCleaner
With the CCleaner you can restore Windows to its old freshness and delete unnecessary ballast. Follow these steps:
- Download and install CCleaner in our download area.
- Start the program and select "Start CCleaner".
- After your hard drive has been cleaned, Windows 7 should now be faster again.
Windows 7 too slow: Clean autostart
The next stop is your autostart. Over time, many programs accumulate in it, which are executed each time the system is started. This slows down the PC considerably and causes long loading times.
- Press [Win] + [R] and enter "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the opened window. Then select "Okay".
- In the window that opens, you will find all the programs that are executed when the computer starts up under the "System start" tab.
- Here you can now uncheck everything that does not necessarily have to start when you log in. Programs like Skype, Spotify or other performance brakes do not have to be started, but can only be started manually later without problems.
Windows 7 too slow: uninstall unused programs
It is recommended to uninstall all programs that are not used. Otherwise, these unnecessarily occupy system resources.
- Navigate to the "Programs and Features" view. In this practical tip we will show you how.
- Under this view, you can now see which programs you are no longer using. You can then safely uninstall it and give Windows some freedom.
- Don't forget to use CCleaner again afterwards to have unused folders and remaining files deleted.
Windows 7 too slow: Clean the PC by reinstalling it
If none of the tips above help, it may be time to reinstall Windows.
- Reinstalling Windows can make your system much faster again. If you then decide to perform the reinstallation on an SSD, your system will be significantly faster. In another practical tip, we explain what the advantages of an SSD are.
