Windows 7: Access to My Documents Denied
If you are denied access to your own files under Windows 7, you have usually changed the operating system beforehand. Here's what you can do in this case.
Access to own files under Windows 7 denied
- First go to "Control Panel" and there to "Folder Options".
- Here you have to tick the "Use simple file sharing" option. Save the changes with "OK".
- Then open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory of the locked folder and right-click on it.
- In the context menu, select "Properties" and finally the "Security" tab.
- Then click on "Advanced" and "Owner". Finally, press the "Change owner to" button and enter your current user name.
- Also check the "Replace owner of objects and subordinate container" checkbox so that the changes take effect. Save the changes with "Apply".
- If this step does not help, try to start the PC in safe mode. To do this, press the [F8] key during startup.
- Then follow the route described above and change the owner to "Administrator". Then save the change with "Apply" and restart the PC.
- You will then have access to your files again.
