Windows 8.1: Open the app in desktop mode
Since Update 1 for Windows 8.1, you can also open apps from the desktop. We'll show you how it's done.
Windows 8.1: Open the app in desktop mode
Since April 8, 2014, so-called Update 1 for Windows 8.1 apps can also be started from the taskbar. You no longer have to use the unpopular start screen. Only with Windows 9, which is expected in April 2015, can apps also be opened in small windows on the desktop.
- Click the Windows button at the bottom left to switch to the home screen.
- Find the app you want from the home screen or click the arrow at the bottom left to show all installed apps.
- Right click the app and select "Pin to taskbar" from the context menu.
- The app will then appear on your desktop in the lower left of the task bar. If you wish, you can move them there to the left or right.
If you want to completely separate yourself from the start screen, you can also start directly on the desktop since Windows 8.1.
