Windows 8.1: Launch apps from the taskbar
Since Update 1 of Windows 8.1, you can also start apps from the taskbar. We show you how to set up the function.

If you have not yet installed Update 1 for Windows 8.1, follow the instructions in the second paragraph.
- Click the Windows button in the lower left corner to go to the home screen.
- Now search for the desired app from the start screen or click on the arrow at the bottom left to show all apps.
- Right-click on the app and select "Pin to taskbar" from the context menu.
- The app now appears in the task bar at the bottom left. If you wish, you can move them there to the left or right.
Windows 8.1 Update 1: How to get the function
To use the new feature, you need Update 1 for Windows 8.1, a kind of mini service pack:
- Open the Control Panel, select the "System and Security" category and then "Windows Update".
- Click the "Check for updates" option in the top left and wait a moment for the latest updates to be retrieved.
- If you select the updates and click the "Install" button below, the latest updates including Update 1 for Windows 8.1 will be installed.
- After a restart, you can follow the instructions above.
