Windows 8.1: Prevent OneDrive from starting automatically
You cannot simply prevent OneDrive from starting automatically in Windows 8.1 via the Task Manager. However, deactivation is still possible via the so-called "group guidelines".
Disable OneDrive using Group Policy
Note that OneDrive initially had the name "SkyDrive". If necessary, the cloud tool can still be found on your computer under the old name, but you can apply the instructions analogously for both names.
- Open Group Policy by pressing [Windows Key] + [R], typing "gpedit.msc" and clicking "OK".
- Navigate to Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> Windows Components> OneDrive (or SkyDrive).
- Double click on the middle point "Prevent using OneDrive for file storage".
- Select the "Activate" option here and confirm with "OK".
