Version 8.1 extends the search function of Windows by additional search results from Bing. You can deactivate this. You can read here how it works:
Simply disable Bing Search
- First position the mouse pointer in the lower right corner of the screen to open the Charm bar.
- Then click on "Settings" and follow the link "Change PC settings".
- Select the category “Search and Apps” and then click on “Search”.
- In the "Your search query" section, change the option to "No personalized results received by Bing". This will prevent you from submitting your location and receiving customized advertising.
- You can also use the "Use Bing to search the Internet" section to set the "Get search suggestions and web results from Bing" slider to "Off". This not only avoids advertising, but also limits the Windows search function to the local computer.
Incidentally, the Internet search via browser is not affected by this setting. How to remove Bing from Internet Explorer can be read in another practical tip.
