If the error code 0xc0000135 occurs during the installation of Windows 8.1, there is an error in the system, but you can fix it yourself with a little skill. We'll show you how it's done.
Step 1: perform system file check
First, let Windows check the system for corrupt files. These are mostly triggers for a failed installation.
- Press the "Windows" key on your keyboard so that you get to the start screen.
- Simply type "cmd", the search opens on the right with the result "Command Prompt".
- Right click on the result and select "Run as administrator". Confirm the subsequent security question with "Yes".
- A black console opens, in which you type "sfc / scannow" and confirm the entry with "Enter". Your system will now be checked for errors for some time.
- When the scan is finished, you will get a result. If errors are found, they are repaired immediately. You do not need to worry about anything after the scan. Now continue with step 2.
Step 2: Check Windows packages for damage
Leave the command prompt open and make a few more entries:
- "Dism / Online / Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth". This checks the component memory for damage. The process can take a few minutes.
- "Dism / Online / Cleanup-Image / CheckHealth". This command checks the damage to the image of the component store and repairs it if necessary.
- "Dism / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth". All defective packages are then repaired afterwards.
Step 3: refresh Windows
Now try again whether the installation of Windows 8.1 works. If this is not the case, you have to "refresh" Windows. All your personal files are retained, but the Windows files are reset and errors are corrected.
- Move the mouse to the top right of the screen so that the Charm Bar opens.
- Click on "Settings" at the bottom and then on "PC Settings".
- Select the "General" item on the left.
- Here you will find the option "Refresh PC without affecting files". Click on "Let's go", the app data will be reset (see picture). However, the refresh also removes all programs and apps that are not from the store.
