Windows 8.1: Map network drive
If you connect a folder shared on the network as a network drive under Windows 8.1, you can access it like a local drive. In this practical tip we will show you how.
How to connect a network drive in Windows 8.1
If you integrate a folder or PC shared on the network as a network drive, it will be displayed directly in Windows Explorer. This enables simplified and more direct access without having to enter the network address each time.
- Open Windows Explorer. This can be done, for example, with the key combination Windows Key + E.
- In the "Computer" ribbon click on "Map network drive". A new window is opening up.
- Select the drive letter you want the network drive to have. You can use any letter if it is still free.
- If you know the exact address of the shared folder or PC, you can insert it directly into the "Folder" field. Otherwise, click on the "Browse ..." button and search for the folder or computer.
- If you want the network drive to be automatically reconnected after a restart of the computer, check the box "Restore connection at login". Then click on "Finish".
- If you need other login data for access, also check the box "Connect with other login information". Then click on "Finish". You may now have to enter the user name and password in another window to complete the network drive setup.
