Windows 8.1: Remove the folder under "This PC"
In Windows 8.1 Explorer you will find many folders under "This PC" in the navigation bar. You can also remove them if you disrupt the links during navigation. We can help you with that.
Remove folder under "Computer" in Windows 8.1 Explorer
Unfortunately, you cannot just hide the folders in the folder options. At least the links via registry entries can be removed from the navigation bar. You can find detailed instructions in the picture gallery and give you a special tip if the procedure does not work with Windows 8.1.
- First press the key combination [Windows] + [R] to start the "Run" dialog.
- Enter "regedit" and start the registration editor.
- Navigate to the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ MyComputer \ NameSpace \".
- If necessary, secure the keys here, as described in this practical tip.
- Remove the following keys to remove the respective folders from the navigation bar:
- {1CF1260C-4DD0-4ebb-811F-33C572699FDE} (music)
- {374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B} (download)
- {3ADD1653-EB32-4cb0-BBD7-DFA0ABB5ACCA} (pictures)
- {8E74D236-7F35-4720-B138-1FED0B85EA75} (SkyDrive)
- {A0953C92-50DC-43bf-BE83-3742FED03C9C} (videos)
- {A8CDFF1C-4878-43be-B5FD-F8091C1C60D0} (documents)
- {B4BFCC3A-DB2C-424C-B029-7FE99A87C641} (desktop)
Instead of the folders, you can simply create your own favorites in Explorer in Windows 8 or always show the ribbon open.
