With the update to Windows 8.1, Microsoft has also added online hits to the local search. This practical tip shows you how to remove the advertising and thereby speed up your search function.
Deactivate advertising in the Windows 8.1 search
To prevent Windows from getting search results online:
- Open the PC settings by simultaneously pressing the keys [Windows] + [I] and in the right sidebar on "PC settings".
- Now select "Search and Apps".
- Finally, set the "Get Bing search results and web suggestions" selection to "Off".
Please note that if you hide the advertisement, you deactivate the Internet search entirely. If you use the online hits in the Charmbar, you will still have to accept the advertising. In another article we will show you how you can deactivate not only the Internet search but also the entire Windows 8 Charmbar.
