Windows 8 and Windows 10 try to automatically adjust all programs to the font settings. This will blur some toos. With a little trick the problem can be fixed and the programs can be brought back into focus.
Fuzzy programs in Windows 8 and 10
Windows 8 and 10 scale up the DPI values of the programs for better display quality. With most tools this is not a problem. However, text and symbols can become blurred, especially with older software. Therefore, you should switch off the optimization in such a case:
- First close all open windows and running processes of the affected program.
- Then right-click the tool's shortcut or EXE.
- In the context menu you decided on the entry "Properties".
- Switch to the "Compatibility" tab and check "Prevent scaling at high DPI".
- Save your selection with "OK" and start the program again.
Emergency plan: Focus programs in Windows 8 and 10
The method described above should work with any program. If there are still problems, you can also run the affected tool in compatibility mode.
- To do this, right-click on the EXE file or the program shortcut again and select "Properties".
- In the "Compatibility" tab, check the box next to "Run the program in compatibility mode for".
- Then set the desired operating system in the dropdown menu below. Most of the time, Windows 7 or Windows XP should be enough.
- Finally save your settings with "OK".
