Windows 8: Configure the lock screen switch-off time individually
Shortly after Windows 8 activates the lock screen, the screen turns off completely. We will show you how to configure this switch-off time.
Show setting for the shutdown time of the lock screen
While similar functions can be configured via the energy options, the necessary setting for the switch-off time is missing at first glance. However, Windows 8 only hides them by default. You can activate them with a change in the registry:
- To do this, press the key combination [Windows] + [R], enter »regedit« and confirm this with the Enter key.
- Navigate to the key »[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ Current- ControlSet \ Control \ Power \ PowerSettings \ 7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53- 06167f40cc99 \ 8EC4B3A5-6868-48c2-BE75-4F3044BE88A7]«.
- In the right dialog area, double click on the DWORD value »Attributes« to edit it, change it to »2« and confirm with »OK«. Close the registry.
Set the shutdown time of the lock screen under Windows 8
- Position the mouse pointer in a corner on the right side of the screen and click on "Settings", "Control Panel".
- Open the "System and Security" area and then the "Energy options".
- Follow the link "Select time to switch off the screen".
- Then click on the "Change advanced energy settings" link, scroll down the list box and click on the plus sign in front of the "Screen".
- Now you will find the additional entry "Time limit for console lock" here. To change, click on the standard value »1 minute« and define the desired new duration next to it.
- Finally confirm with »Apply« and »OK«.
