Windows 8: Close all windows at the same time
If you often work with many windows in Windows 8, you can also close all of them before shutting down the computer, for example. In this article, we show you how this works with a key combination and a useful tool.
Windows 8: minimize windows only
If you only want to minimize all windows at the same time and not close them completely, the quickest way is by pressing a key combination:
- To do this, press the [Windows] key and [d].
- By pressing the key combination again, the windows are restored.
Windows 8 and 8.1: Close all Explorer windows completely with a key combination
With a well-known key combination you can also completely close all windows under Windows 8 and 8.1.

Close all windows under Windows 8 via the task bar
- Slide the mouse pointer under one of the open programs in the task bar (see picture).
- As soon as you select it with a left click, a context menu appears.
- Here you select the item "Close all windows". All windows of this program or of the Explorer are now closed.
Terminate windows and processes under Windows 8 with the program
There is also a useful program that can relieve you of a lot of work. It automatically ends the processes you have selected and saves you from having to close the windows manually.
- You can find the "CloseAll" program in the CHIP download portal.
- After installation, you can run the program directly.
- Check the windows / programs you want to close.
- As soon as you click "OK", an exit command is sent and the windows are closed.
