Windows 8: Change login screen
In this practical tip, we explain how to change the login screen in Windows 8. If you still had to do this in the registry editor in Windows 7, the option in Windows 8 is hidden in the user settings.
Change login screen in Windows 8
- Move your mouse into the lower right corner so that the Charms menu opens. Here you click on the item "Settings".
- At this point, click on "Change PC settings".
- You will then be taken directly to the "Personalize" area.
- Here you select "Lock screen".
- In the "lock screen previews" you can now choose one of the presented images.
- Alternatively, click on "Navigate" and decide on your own picture.
- You can also play a slideshow on the lock screen by moving the slider to "On" for the option.
Change the background of the start menu: How to proceed
You may also want to change the background of the Windows 8 Start menu. It works like this:
- In the "Control Panel" under "Appearance and Personalization" enter your desktop background as usual.
- Now right-click on the taskbar and select "Properties".
- Decide on the "Navigation" tab and check the box next to "Show desktop background on home page".
- Save the change with "OK".
