Windows 8: Apps crash - this may be the reason
If your apps crash under the Windows 8 operating system, this can have various causes. In this practical tip, we show you possible problems and give you solutions so that your apps start without errors.
Windows 8: Update apps
If apps no longer open under Windows 8, it may be because they are out of date. In this case, you should update and make sure that the apps are up to date.
- Click on Store on the start screen and move the mouse to the right edge of the screen if possible. Touch Settings Then select "App updates".
- Within the menu item "Update my apps automatically" you should set "Yes". This is how you ensure that your apps are updated automatically. Otherwise, you can also check for updates manually. To do this, select "Check for updates".
- It can happen that the license installed on the PC is not synchronized with the license of the app. The app will then no longer work. Click "Sync Licenses" to fix the error.
Windows 8: antivirus program causes problems
Some antivirus programs are able to perform behavior-based analyzes. The security program checks targeted actions of programs. If the program changes or deletes files on the hard disk, this can be a suspicious action of the application. The security software can prevent apps from running correctly.
- Update the security software to the latest version. If the error still occurs, deactivate the behavior-based detection of the antivirus program.
- If the applications still crash, you should uninstall the antivirus. Use security programs supported by Windows 8. You can also use Windows Defender.
- If you have further problems, you should contact manufacturer support or look for possible solutions on the manufacturer's support page.
Windows 8: Fix registry errors
There may be incorrect entries in the Windows 8 registry in the Ole branch. You should remove these entries so that the apps start again.
- Use the key combination [Windows] + [R] to open the "Run" input window. Enter "regedit.exe" and click "OK". To run the registry editor, click "Yes".
- Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Ole. Right click on Ole and go to "Export". You can save the settings in a .reg file.
- Then delete the entire content of Ole. Note that Ole itself is still preserved. Close the registry editor.
- Restart your PC and check whether the apps can be started. If you have not fixed the error, you can solve the problem by reinstalling Windows 8. You should not apply the Windows 7 settings.
