Windows 8: Speed up startup programs
Windows 8 autostart is convenient, but it slows down the speed. This practical tip shows you how to speed up program loading.
More speed when starting automatically - a registry entry does the trick
Programs in the Startup folder start automatically when the PC starts up. Unfortunately, loading is delayed by the auto start. With a little trick in the registry you get more speed in the start. Since changes in the registry can influence the stability and function of your system, we have once again summarized the individual steps in the gallery for you.
- Press the Windows key + [R] at the same time to call up the Run input.
- Type "regedit" in the text box and confirm to start the registry editor.
- Navigate in the registry editor to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Explorer" (see picture).
- Right click on "Explorer". In the context menu select "New -> Key". You should call the new key "Serialize".
- Now click with the right mouse button on the new key "Serialize" and navigate in the context menu to "New -> DWORD value (32-bit). Name the new value" StartupDelayinMSec ".
- Next double click on the new value "StartupDelayinMSec" and make sure that in the dialog window there is a "0" at "Value". Confirm with OK".
The next time you restart your PC, the programs in the Startup folder should now start faster. You should only make changes to the registry if you know what you are doing. Some programs also change the registry file independently. In another practical tip, we have therefore summarized how you can monitor registry changes.
