Windows 8: Change permissions of apps
By default, apps in Windows 8 have access to various personal data. You can also change these authorizations and determine which information you disclose yourself. We'll show you how.
Change app permissions on Windows 8
- Open the Charms bar by placing the mouse pointer in the top right or bottom corner of the screen.
- Click on "Settings" and "PC Settings".
- Select the category »Data protection«.
- With three small sliders, you set the following options to "On" or "Off" and thus determine which data is accessible to apps:
- With "I agree that apps can access my location" you transmit your location information, which can be useful for local weather information.
- The second option, "I agree that apps use my name and profile picture" is a bit more critical.
- The third option is "I want to help improve the Windows Store by sending URLs to the web content that my apps access." You should definitely set this to "Off" so that you do not send your usage history to Microsoft.
