Right-click has a new function in Windows 8. You won't find the familiar context menu on the start screen under Windows 8. If you now right-click, you have clearer and, above all, more individual options.
Windows 8.1: The new old right click
With Windows 8, Microsoft wanted to revolutionize right-click. However, this was not so well received by the users, so that the classic context menu can be found again under Windows 8.1. If you have not yet updated to Windows 8.1, read on in the next paragraph.
- If you right-click on an empty space on the start screen, only one option opens. You can use "Name groups" to give the individual sections names that are usually not necessary.
- If you right-click on a tile, you will find all the important functions you need here. Among other things, you can remove, uninstall, pin the taskbar, resize, or open it as an administrator.
- Tip: If you hold down the [Ctrl] key at the bottom left of the keyboard, you can mark several tiles at the same time. The same options are not available for every application.
Windows 8: Right click instead of context menu
Right-click now has many different functions and replaces the classic context menu of Windows. This is now displayed either in a bar at the top or bottom of the screen, sometimes both. There are different functions for each application. Here are a few examples:
- If you click the right mouse button on an empty space on the start screen, a bar appears at the bottom of the screen. This is where the menu item for all apps is located - this allows you to manage all installed Win-8 applications.
- With a right click on a single app, a bar appears below. There you can choose whether you want to pin the application to the home screen or not. If you want, you can also uninstall the applications on the spot or enlarge / reduce app tiles.
- If you select several tiles and then right-click, you will only be shown the options that are available for all selected applications.
In the next practical tip we will show you how to start Windows 8 without login.
