Windows 8: DVD drive disappeared - what to do?

If the DVD drive has disappeared after installing Windows 8, this is usually due to an incorrect entry in the registry. We'll show you how to fix the problem quickly.
Retrieve lost DVD drive in Windows 8
Before you jump into the Windows registry, you should update the drivers for your drive. In many cases, you can also correct the error.
- If the driver update does not help, press the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- Now the "Execute" dialog opens. Enter the command "regedit" here and confirm with [Enter].
- Navigate to the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ atapi \ Controller0".
- Right-click an empty area. In the context menu, select "New"> "DWORD value". Enter "EnumDevice1" as the name.
- Then double click on the new entry and set the value to "1".
- Finally save the changes with "Ok" and restart your computer.
You can now find your DVD drive in the workplace and can burn ISO images, for example.
