Windows 8: Fix error 651 - Here's how
If error 651 occurs under Windows 8, there is allegedly a problem with the Internet connection. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Fix error 651 on Windows 8
Error 651 already occurred under Windows 7 and has not really been solved by Microsoft to date. However, there are two measures that solve the alleged problem of a missing network cable.
- If you are still using Windows Vista on another PC or if you know someone who uses the operating system, the copy of a certain file can help.
- Press the [Windows] and [E] keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens. Now navigate to the path: "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ drivers".
- Here you will find the "raspppoe.sys" file. You need this from a PC on which Windows Vista is installed. The problem did not yet occur there.
- Rename the file for example to "raspppoeALT.sys" and copy the new file into the folder as well.
- If the error 651 no longer occurs, delete the "raspppoeALT.sys". If the problem persists, undo the changes.
Windows 8: Incorrect LAN settings cause error 651
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.

- Click on the "Configure" button above and switch to the "Advanced" tab.
- Select the "Speed & Duplex" category on the left and set the value to "10 Mbit / s full duplex" on the right.
- Your changes are saved with the "OK" button. Then restart Windows.
