Windows 8: How to import photos
In Windows 8, many functions are supposedly gone - including importing photos. But like the others, the function is only repositioned in the current Windows version. We'll show you where to find them and how to best use them.
Import photos in Windows 8
- Open Windows Explorer by simultaneously pressing the "Windows" and "E" keys.
- On the left you can see the connected device under "Computer" - for example your memory card or USB stick. If it is one of the two named media, right-click on it and select the "Open as portable device" option from the context menu.
- The device now appears in the navigation bar on the left as a normal removable disk and as a portable device. Now right click on the portable device and select the option "Import pictures and videos". The device is now briefly searched for these files.
- If you want to import the images as quickly and easily as possible, activate the lower function "Import all new elements now". Enter a name for the folder and click "Next". Then all photos and videos are saved in the "Pictures" folder.
- You can use the function above to exclude individual images from the import or to import only individual images.
- If you want to make further import settings, follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
Additional import settings for images under Win 8
- For further settings, click on the blue link "More options" before importing the images (see screenshot above).
- Here you can set the default storage location for photos and videos and select whether the files and folders should be given specific names based on the names and dates of the images.
- Another practical function is to delete the pictures from the device after import. You can also find them here.
