Windows 8: Change tile icons
You can change the tile icons of older software under Windows 8. All you need is a free program. We show you how it works.
Design tile icons yourself under Windows 8
- Download, install and open the free "Modern Tile Maker" tool.
- Enter the desired display text for the new program under »Display Name« and select the text color in the »Display Text Color« bar.
- Then click the "Browse" button next to "Application or File" and navigate to the relevant program file, such as "regedit.exe".
- Optionally, you can use "Application Runs as Administrator" to specify that the program should request administrator rights when it starts.
- In addition to programs, you can also include folders or URLs here.
- For the larger picture in the tile you need a graphic file up to a size of 150x150 pixels. You can use any graphics here, but by clicking on "Browse" you will already find a selection of predefined images for the most common programs.
- In the “Tile Color” bar you can define a color for the tile background. Finally click on "Pin to Start" to attach the tile shown as a preview to the new start menu.
Tip: A similar, also highly recommended program is "OblyTile".
