Windows 8: Recent documents on start screen
In Windows XP there was a link to the "most recently used documents" in the Start menu - not in Windows 8. If you don't have the "last documents" on the start screen, we show you in this practical tip how to get them back.
How to find the latest documents
Right under the downloads you will see a link "Last visited" in the Explorer. There you will find folders that you have recently visited - but not the files that you have edited. These are hidden somewhat deeper in Windows 8.
- Go to your desktop and open the Run console with the key combination Windows + R.
- Type "recent" into the console. You will be taken to a folder with the most recently edited documents.
Place the last documents on the start screen
To open the last documents on the start screen, you have to create a shortcut.
- Click on the icon in the explorer bar and drag it to the desktop to create a shortcut.
- With a right click on the link you can attach the last documents to the start - now they are on the start screen as a tile.
