Windows 8: create partition - how it works
If you want to store certain data separately, you can create a partition under Windows 8.
Windows 8: How to create partition
- Simultaneously press the [Windows] + [R] keys so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Now enter the command "diskmgmt.msc" and confirm with "OK". Then the "Disk management" opens.
- Right-click on the desired hard drive to open the context menu and select the "Reduce volume" option.
- Choose the size of the memory you need for the new partition. If you want the new partition to hold 20 GB, reduce the volume by 20 GB.
- If you click the "Shrink" button, the partition is shrunk and a storage space is created that is "not assigned".
- Right-click on the "unallocated" storage and select the "New Simple Volume" option. You can now allocate the entire free space here.
- Note: If the empty memory is shown as "not assigned", you have to right-click "Format".
