Windows 8: PC automatically exits energy-saving mode - what to do?
There are several reasons why energy saving mode can be terminated on your PC with Windows 8 more often. We'll tell you what it can be and how to deactivate the culprits.
Windows 8: PC automatically wakes up from energy-saving mode
External hardware is responsible in many cases. If you accidentally touch the mouse or tap a key, the computer wakes up again. So that you only wake the computer from sleep by pressing the power switch or opening the laptop, you can find and deactivate any hardware that is capable of it:
- Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "cmd" and confirm with "OK". Then a black window opens, the input console.
- Type in the command "powercfg / devicequery wake_armed" and confirm with "Enter". You will now receive a list of all hardware that can wake your computer from sleep mode.
- The screenshot only shows the laptop's mouse under the name "HID-compliant mouse". In order to prevent the mouse from waking up the PC, you have to append the name of the mouse to the command "powercfg / devicedisablewake". Enter the command "powercfg / devicedisablewake HID-compliant mouse" and confirm with "Enter".
- In energy-saving mode, you can then move the mouse over without the computer restarting.
- To reactivate the mouse, you need the command "powercfg / deviceen ablewake". In our example you would have to enter "powercfg / deviceen ablewake HID-compliant mouse".
